A kick plate isn’t the only feature of an exterior door that makes it look beautiful. To be honest, in my opinion, I think that a door with nothing but a kick plate looks kind of boring. You need features that complement the kick plate. By installing something such as a door knocker or door handle that matches the finish of your kick plate, a really beautiful and modern look can be achieved.

The style you want is up to you; after all, it is your door. Despite that, you might need some advice. Make sure they are the exact same finish. You don’t want a brushed brass handle on the same door as a polished brass kick plate. It just doesn’t work. Get a polished brass handle to match a polished brass kick plate. The same applies to any finish.

The next part is entirely down to preference, but try not to overdo it. If you have a kick plate, studs, letterbox, door knocker and even decorative hinges; then you might have just overloaded your door. Sometimes it can look really good, but usually, if you’re seeing more brass than you are door then you might be doing it wrong. At the same time, too little can also look sort of stupid. If you’ve got, for example, a black door with just a kick plate on it, it can look kind of boring. It might sometimes be best to not have the kick plate if there’s nothing to compliment it. Once again though, it’s all down to preference.
